A TINY SEQUENCER WITH PLENTY OF POSSIBILITIES
Sequence8 is a retro style music sequencing game built in PICO-8 that lets you create short musical patterns using a compact grid. Instead of following a fixed song, you decide which notes should play and shape the track yourself.
TURN THE GRID INTO MUSIC
The main screen presents a grid filled with note slots that can be activated to build your sequence. Arrange notes across the available positions, combine different patterns, and listen to how they work together.
You can work with four audio channels and several instruments, giving you room to separate different parts of a composition. Experiment with short rhythms or build a more layered arrangement, the grid is your musical playground. One of Sequence8's most useful features is its simple approach to sharing music. Completed songs can be copied as text to your clipboard, then pasted back later to restore or share a sequence. This makes it easy to save an idea, send a pattern to someone else, or return to an unfinished composition without needing a complicated file system.
What You Can Do
- Four audio channels - Layer multiple parts in one sequence.
- Several instruments - Experiment with different sounds.
- Grid-based sequencing - Place notes and shape patterns visually.
- Copy/paste saving - Store and share songs through clipboard text.
- PICO-8 presentation - Create music through a charming retro interface.
Controls
- Mouse - Select and place notes on the grid
Experiment With Every Pattern
Start with a simple rhythm and gradually add notes to other channels. Try changing the spacing between notes, switching instruments, or removing sounds that make the sequence too busy.
Because you can copy and paste your creations, don't be afraid to experiment, save a pattern before changing it and build from there.
